Have you heard about this before? The five people you spend most of your time with--are the ones who directly influence your life, your productivity, your mindset, your attitude, your wealth, your health.
Who are the five people you spend the most time with on a regular basis? Even if you don't see them or talk to them every day, think of the five people who are in your sphere most regularly. Now, break it down. Think of how you feel when you are with these people? Uplifted, energized, in the flow so much so that you lose track of time, sucked in, depleted, just blah? No judging here, just noticing how the people in your life affect you.
As I am building my motivational speaking and coaching business--I keep hearing about how important it is to surround myself with like minded, aspirational people who are go-getters and do-ers, those who are making their dreams come true. The voices you hear again and again (watch out for your own) are the ones you believe. The messages you "ingest" do make a difference in how you feel, how you act, what you believe and what you do about any of it. These people do influence you by their unique energy.
I am taking this seriously. Not because I want to live in "la la land" where only good things happen. Not even close. I am a Scorpio, and I can look at the dark side very easily. However, I am aware of how I want to feel. Positive! How I want to work. With intention and attention! How I want to show up. Motivated!
Let's get practical for you, in your life. What if you noticed (like I did) that one of the five people you interact with on a daily basis negatively impacts you? Maybe they live in your house or you are a caretaker for them? Maybe it is your spouse/partner going through the worst of times. Maybe it's a friend you have outgrown. What can you do? You can break up with friends by gradually disengaging. Taking longer to respond to calls, texts. Not being available. You can let it die a slow death. But you aren't breaking up with your family, right? That doesn't mean you have to take on their negative energy and let it ruin your good mood or your day. EASIER said than done.
One helpful way to avoid taking on the energy of those around you is to picture the Grand Canyon between you and them. I got this tip from my Qi Gong Master, Lee Holden. He does it himself. Use the power of your imagination to separate the two of you by a great divide so that you don't get sucked in to negativity or drama. It's not yours. Don't own it even a little bit.
It's a long, healthy life's work to navigate the world, figure out relationships, change with the times and still be uniquely yourself. Life is meant to be lived and celebrated not dreaded and suffered through. So identify your five people for who and what they are. And respond accordingly. Save yourself, your sanity, your mindset and your dreams.
