Exploring Life and Death

ree

A few months ago I was invited to a gathering at the Bardo in Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota. It was a meeting of life coaches in a beautiful home and end of life setting, in order to talk about bringing more open conversation and coaching to the end of life experience. It was all brand new to me!

Since we are all going this way at some point, it makes sense to talk about and take the fear, uncertainty and worry away. In a world that often avoids the subject of death, discussing it can feel a little uncomfortable at first but unexpectedly refreshing too.

On Wednesday, October 22, at 6 PM, I will be hosting a virtual Death Cafe on Zoom, and I welcome you to join. This gathering is an opportunity to share thoughts, feelings, and wonderings about a topic that touches us all.

What is a Death Cafe?

A Death Cafe is an informal gathering that encourages open discussion about death in a relaxed atmosphere. The concept was developed by Jon Underwood in 2011, inspired by the work of Swiss sociologist Bernard Crettaz. The goal is to provide a space where we can share thoughts and experiences related to death, dying, and grief without fear of judgment or pressure. No one is right. No one is wrong.

Interestingly, research suggests that 70% of people feel uncomfortable discussing death, but engaging in these conversations can help demystify death and enhance our understanding of its role in our lives. I'm in, especially if this leads to leading a more authentic and intentional life.

What to Expect at the Virtual Death Cafe

There is no strict agenda. I am the facilitator, and you, as the participant, can share and wonder and propose any thoughts you have about this topic. Respect for everyone's perspective is expected. It's a brave space to be in, and we are figuring it out together. There is no fixing. This is not grief support group or end of life planning. This is simply an open sharing opportunity.

I'll close this out with a brief (1 minute) guided visualization. That's it!

I hope to see you there!
