Stop Judging... YOURSELF

Unless you wear a black robe on a daily basis and sit behind a big desk in front of a room full of lawyers and defendants and plaintiffs, STOP JUDGING.... yourself, your life, your circumstances, your diagnosis, your knee. (That's me!)

If you think about how much time you spend commenting (up or down, like or not, give it a heart...) you might realize that technology has trained us to have an opinion about anything and everything. That's a shame, because there is too much information out there. Most of it you don't benefit from knowing. Most of it doesn't require your thumbs up or thumbs down, and yet that is where the mind goes. It likes to connect dots.

In my DIETS ARE DEAD, BUT I'M NOT coaching group, we had a very dynamic and relatable conversation this week about what happens when we do have an opinion about ourselves (makes sense) even though it's not helpful, and it's not worthwhile to focus on it. No thumbs up. It is definitely thumbs down. However, by focusing energy on what we do not want, we tune into it even more, and it bothers us even more, and it makes us feel less than. OUCH. All around.

Let's flip the script!

What would life be like if you didn't judge--yourself, your weight, your circumstances, your bank account, your delicate aging process, etc.? What would it feel like? How much room would you have to focus on something else? What if you chose how you wish to think and feel, where you'd like to put your attention, how you'd like to show up despite whatever else is going on? If you are in the hospital, then you are in crisis. Liking it or not liking it does not enter the picture. Handling it? That's everything. That's a game changer.

So, with this in mind, free yourself. Free yourself from your past, your "mistakes," your problems, your challenges, your weight struggles, your present circumstances and any anxiety over your future. Let it all go. Let it be. Acknowledge how you feel about something that directly affects you, yes. Dwell on it? No. That's an enormous waste of your precious energy. You are worth more than that. Leave the judging to the ones who get paid to do it.

Move on with your hobbies, your special interests, your pets, walking in nature, writing in your journal, listening to music, singing in the choir, going to meet friends, crafting, cooking, reading, traveling, writing poetry, planning next year's garden, volunteering, donating to your causes, smiling at strangers, taking a nap, rearranging your furniture, taking a breath, making art, coloring, making a spa date, planning a spring break...

That feels so much better. That's great advice for all of us!
